“I’ve been working on this movie with [Overcompensating co-stars] Owen Thiele and Mary Beth, and it’s just, it’s joy and I think the concept is what would it be like if, you know, Owen and I are best friends, and I’m just like the thought of if I knew him when I was in like third grade,” he shared on SiriusXM’s The Julia Cunningham Show. “What my experience would’ve been like in elementary school and who I would’ve been now if I had someone that was also gay and just like such a shared, um, yeah. I don’t know, like a shared experience that you could have, what that would feel like, but yeah. I’m writing movies right now. It’s really fun because I feel like I can’t cheat on, I can’t cheat on Overcompensating with other TV yet.”

As for season two of Overcompensating, Benito continued to tease that he’s ready to go when Prime Video is!

“I mean, I’m ready with all the outlines for season two. I know what I want to do. I’m ready to go. If I get the call, we’re ready to go and yeah,” he dished. “I’m ready to go and it’s just been, I think I still, I remain so inspired by the people around me and by peers and, you know, Mary Beth and Owen, I could write for forever. I mean, I wrote, you know, they’re the two people in the show that I wrote specific roles for, and I feel so lucky that they played them and they played them to hell. Holy shit. I’ll always write parts for them. I mean, duh.”

“If they can still come and do it, I’m like, ‘I hope,’ but yeah,” Benito continued. “I’m feeling really inspired lately and also just by the reaction to the show has been really, I think the thing I’m most proud of is some of the specificity landing, you know, of experience and even if George of the Jungle wasn’t your gay awakening, having other people send me theirs and that kind of moment that for so many of us, it is not a person in class. It’s like on TV and in a movie and yeah. I just, I feel so lucky.”

Earlier this month, Benito shared a similar sentiment, noting there was no word yet on if Overcompensating would be renewed, but he’s ready!
