While Straw is unavailable for Game 2 of the series against the Diamondbacks, Clase could come off the bench, Schneider said.

Both players exited in the fifth inning of the Blue Jays’ series-opening 5-4 win.

Clase was hit in the knee by a Brandon Pfaadt offering in the bottom of the fourth. He was in apparent discomfort on the play and was tended to by Blue Jays trainers and Schneider.

The 23-year-old outfielder stayed in the game to run, but was replaced by Straw in centre field for the next half inning. Straw ended up injuring his ankle in the top of the fifth after seemingly twisting his ankle on a Josh Naylor double off the wall.

Straw was replaced in centre by Alan Roden and later ruled out with a right ankle sprain.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a strong debut season with the Blue Jays as a bench outfielder, hitting .264 with one home run, 14 RBIs and five steals in 59 games.

Clase, the 23-year-old who was acquired for Yimi Garcia at last year’s trade deadline, is hitting .205 with one home run, six RBIs and three steals in 25 appearances.

The Blue Jays look for their second straight win against the Diamondbacks live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 7:07 p.m. ET / 4:07 p.m. PT.
